Meeting Held Wednesday to Discuss Bemis Mill Future

SOUTH JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson City leaders met with Bemis Mill co-owner Christian Morton, Wednesday. It is a final push by the city to save the deteriorating building. City leaders say the owners’ request for a permit to deconstruct the building is still being reviewed. So for now, the mill still stands. It’s unclear how long it could take for the permit to be approved. City Councilwoman Vicky Foote, who represents the area, is one of many city leaders fighting to save the mill. According to City Planner Stan Pilant, they’re still sorting through every option to save the historic building. “I just hope we find something positive that we can do that will benefit the community and stabilize the community for the future,” Pilant said.
