JACKSON, Tenn. — Are you smarter than a Pope Panther? Fourth and fifth grade students teamed up Friday to take on Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist and WBBJ’s own Tom Meiners. This war of wits is a fun way to help students prepare for the upcoming state achievement tests. The game tested the contestants’ skills in reading, language, math, science and social studies. Teachers say it’s a good way of getting students fired up about the testing. “We’re trying to relieve a little bit of the stress of the test because you know the word TCAP usually kind of scares the kids a little bit, but they’ve worked so hard they’ll do great,” Sonya Patrick, a counselor at Pope Elementary said. TCAP testing starts next week.
