JACKSON, Tenn.-South Jackson is seeing a boom in new business development. New buildings are under construction along South Highland Avenue right across the street from the new southside Goodwill location. Retailers and restaurants are said to be moving in. Mayor Jerry Gist said despite more than 35,000 cars passing through this area every day. Many chain businesses are reluctant to move in because the residential population is relatively low. “Once you start development that kind of motivates other developments so we are hopeful that it will grow from there and we will continue to seek growth in south Jackson,” said Mayor Jerry Gist. According to Mayor Gist, south Jackson is a designated redevelopment area, much like midtown and east Jackson.
