Man Accused of Beating His Roommate to Death Formally Charged

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A Jackson man is formally charged after police say he beat his roommate to death last November. Clarence Johnson was indicted last week on a count of first degree murder in the beating death of John Wesley Williams. He was arraigned on Monday afternoon. Shortly after 7 p.m. on Nov. 22, Johnson called police and reported that he had found his roommate, Williams, dead. Officers located Williams deceased inside the house at 104 Second Street. Police discovered that Johnson and Williams had been living there together. The house had no utilities and was not in a livable condition. Johnson remains in custody in lieu of $500,000 bond.
