GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — History will be made in Gibson County. It is their first Republican Primary in decades. We caught up to Gibson County Sheriff Candidate Rodney Wright, who will be facing off against Jerry Morris on Tuesday. “I want to head the sheriff’s office in a new positive direction and I have the ability to do that. The people of this county deserve to have a great sheriff and that’s what I want to do for them,” Wright said. Wright has served in law enforcement for 19 years. Although he is a Gibson County native, he has served the past 15 years in Dyer County. He said this experience gives him a fresh perspective on what the sheriff’s office needs. “It’s going to be a totally new look in the way that we’re going to approach law enforcement for the county,” Wright said. “I have investigated and prosecuted every type of crime from undercover drug operations to sexual assaults to heinous crimes of murder,” said Wright. He said it is his mission to be there for the people. “As sheriff I need to be accountable to those people and available to those people.” He hopes people will make this decision: “I want them to make the ‘Wright’ choice, vote the ‘Wright’ way, and vote Rodney Wright for Sheriff.” The winner of this election will face off with Democratic incumbent Chuck Arnold and Independent candidate Paul Thomas in the August general election.
