TVA Cutting 10 Percent of Staff Statewide

NORTH JACKSON — TVA announced it’s cutting 10 percent of its staff statewide, making this the largest staffing cut in more than 20 years. The Tennessee Valley Authority says 750 employees have retired or resigned through a voluntary incentive program, and another 1,000 vacant positions are being eliminated. The TVA Oakfield location could not confirm how many jobs will be cut from this branch. TVA officials say involuntary layoffs will be made later this year. The cuts are due to climbing electricity rates and increased operating costs. TVA supplies power to about 9 million people in Tennessee and six other states.
