Union President Prepares For His Last Commencement

NORTH JACKSON — It’s almost an end of an era at Jackson’s Union University. After almost two decades at the institution, President David Dockery is preparing to honor his last class of graduates. Dr. Dockery announced earlier this year he was stepping down as president of the Southern Baptist affiliated school. Although Saturday is his last day at Union, faculty members and students gathered Friday to wish him a fond farewell. Dr. Dockery says it has been an honor and a blessing to lead the school. “Tomorrow when I shake hands with the graduates, somewhere along the way I will shake hands with the 15,000th graduate during my tenure here,” Dr. Dockery said. “That is an amazing thing to consider.” Dr. Dockery will assume the leadership as president of Trinity Evangelical Divinity school in Deerfield, Illinois on June 1.
