Police: Victim Uses Gasoline to Fend off Robber

WEST JACKSON — A man accused of attempting to rob a A 71-year-old at a gas station is still at large, police say. On Sunday around 1:30 p.m, police say a 71-year-old Beech Bluff man was pumping gas when he was approached from behind by a man who attempted to take his wallet from his back pocket. The victim reacted in self-defense, removed the gas nozzle from his car and sprayed the suspect with gasoline. The suspect then ran away toward Gordon Street. Police obtained surveillance footage taken from inside the gas station. The suspect is a black man with shoulder-length, dread-lock style hair. He also had a goatee. He was described as being in his early 20s, around 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed about 200 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.
