City Breaks Ground on New Soccer Fields

NORTH JACKSON — A well-known park in North Jackson is getting two additional soccer fields. The Area Wide Soccer Association and the City of Jackson broke ground Wednesday for the fields at North Park. Tony Black, Executive Director of Recreation and Parks, says the two additional fields cost around $800,000, and it was paid for by capital funds and a $100,000 check from Area Wide Soccer. Black says this is a great way to bring positive fun to kids. “Soccer is a very popular sport,” Black said. “It’s actually the most popular sport in the world, and this community has a vibrant soccer community and kids participating.” City leaders say they start work on the field in June and they hope to finish in the Fall. The field will open in 2015.
