Educator of the Week: Cupples

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — Our last Educator the Week of the 2013-2014 school year is Robert Cupples, a journey man educator who has more than 40 years experience within the Dyersburg School District. Cupples is an alum of both the school he teaches for and the University of Tennessee at Martin where he picked up his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He says a prior educator is the reason he was drawn to teaching. “I had a teacher in school in 7th grade,” Cupples said. “He was the first male teacher I had. I saw how hard he worked and his presence in the classroom. I have to thank him.” Cupples says the incorporation of a “Whatever It takes attitude” and belief to go above the impossible will help students accomplish any challenge or any goal. “We told them it looked like “I’m Possible” not “impossible”. And again you know your gonna encounter different struggles throughout life physical or whatever. You know you gotta do whatever it takes to work through that to be the best you can be.” Cupples said. Cupples will be retiring from Dyersburg Intermediate at the end of this year. He plans to continue to serve the youth of Dyersburg and wants to continue to make a difference in their lives.
