World World II Vets Honored in Jackson

NORTH JACKSON — It was an emotional afternoon to kick off Memorial Day Friday at a local retirement community. On Friday afternoon, 16 veterans were honored during a ceremony at Elmcroft Assisted Living Center in North Jackson. Veteran Dewayne Horn took part in the ceremony by reading the preamble to the constitution. The Daughters of American Revolution along with Jackson-Madison County Veteran’s Day committee were on hand to congratulate each of them. “I think to a community telling a World War II vet ‘thank you’ for time served is of the upmost importance because we are losing them quickly,” Mary Ross, a committee member, said. “There is not a whole lot around, and just the people I have had the pleasure of being able to interact with teach you so much.” Officials at Elmcroft say they work honor veterans year round. The center has a wall of honor dedicated to all of its military veterans.
