Trio arrested, charged in multiple burglaries

EAST MADISON COUNTY — Three people have been arrested and charged with several counts of burglary and theft after a traffic stop. On May 30, a Madison County Sheriff‘s Office deputy pulled over a car matching the description of one seen near reported home burglaries. According to the deputy, the car smelled like marijuana, prompting all three suspects to be transported to the Madison County Jail for questioning. Deputies found a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver, a Sony Laptop, Nokia camera and silver polishing cloth in the trunk of the vehicle. Upon further investigation, it was revealed the suspects were responsible for multiple burglaries. Mario William Chatman was charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana; Driving While Unlicensed; Possession of a Firearm during dangerous Felony; and six counts of each Aggravated Burglary, Theft of Property, and Vandalism. A.C. Scott, Jr. was charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana; Possession of a Firearm during dangerous Felony; 6 counts of Aggravated Burglary; 6 counts of Theft of Property and 4 counts of Vandalism. Keyona Kelly was charged with 6 counts of Aggravated Burglary and Theft of Property and 3 counts of Vandalism. Chatman, Scott, Jr. and Kelly were arraigned on Monday. Their bonds were set at $250,000 each. Their preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 12 at 1 p.m. in General Sessions Court Division I.
