Grizzlies end Caravan Tour in Jackson right before training camp

JACKSON, Tenn. – NBA training camp is just around the corner, and many local fans are excited about the Memphis Grizzlies. Forward Jon Leuer made a stop in Jackson on Wednesday afternoon, giving West Tennesseans a chance to jump start the season. “I got a chance to meet some of the player from Memphis and it was cool,” said Keron Croom. The second annual Regional Caravan Tour hit the city of Jackson for its final stop. Fans of all ages got a chance to celebrate the upcoming season and pick up a few tips from an NBA star. “That interaction is going to be great for them because every time they start dribbling and playing ball, they know I learned this from the Grizzlies,” said Joann Taylor, who brought her nephews. As part of the tour, Leuer, the Grizz mascot and Grizz girls hosted the youth basketball clinic. Teaching kids the fundamentals took the four year NBA player down memory lane. “I remember when I was that age going to camp. You’re just happy to be in the gym playing basketball with your friends,” laughed Leuer. This tour is less about basketball and more about the Grizzlies community support. Leuer says what makes the tour so special is seeing fans across the region that never get a chance to make it to Memphis. Now, that the Caravan tour is over, it’s back to business. “I’m ready to go. We’ve been running 5-on-5 for the last couple of days. Ready to get training camp rolling.” The Grizzlies training camp begins on Tuesday, while the season tips off on Oct. 29 at the FedEx Forum against Minnesota.
