DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A Jackson property management owner appeared Monday in environmental court regarding a city ordinance violation. Paul Mundt has fulfilled the requirement for obtaining an asbestos report, and the report indicated the asbestos levels were low enough to proceed with the demolition of Mundt’s 1170 Hollywood Blvd. property. The court had previously ordered the demolition of the property, which was destroyed in a January fire. Mundt had initially planned to rebuild the property. The city attorney hopes the demolition could begin as early as next week. Mundt said he has given up any thought of trying to rebuild the building and has accepted the fact that it needs to be demolished. He will make another appearance next week for a progress report. Mundt will be fined $50 a day for every day he is in violation.
