Hearing reset for man charged in death of 7-month-old

BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — A hearing date has been reset for a man charged in the death of a 7-month-old boy. Westlee Yates was scheduled to be back in Benton County General Sessions Court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing. The hearing was reset until Oct. 8 so the results of his mental evaluation can be reviewed, according to Assistant District Attorney Bruce Griffey. Yates is still being held at the Benton County Jail. Yates is charged with first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of his girlfriend’s 7-month-old son, Joseph Hilliard, according to the sheriff’s department.
