Supporters plan events for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — West Tennesseans are planning events this month to raise awareness for breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and people in downtown Jackson wore pink Wednesday to promote the cause. Survivors and supporters plan to host walks and fundraisers throughout the month. However, organizers say the most important thing about the month is making sure women are getting a regular checkup. “Mammography is the best detector of breast cancer in its earliest stages when it’s at the most treatable, and so if women will remind themselves every time they see pink this month, that will be a success,” said Peggy Donaldson with the American Cancer Society. The first event will be the Take Your Girls Night Out 5K scheduled for Thursday night. For a complete list of special Breast Cancer Awareness Month events, visit the Seen on 7 section of our website.
