Exchange Club names Firefighter of the Year

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — The Jackson Exchange Club handed out its honor of Firefighter of the Year on Tuesday. The honor went to Jackson Fire Department driver Stanley Cole. Along with the honor, Mayor Jerry Gist declared Tuesday as Stanley Cole Day in Jackson. Cole’s captain and fellow firefighters say he is well deserving of the honor. Cole, a ten-year veteran of the department, said he is humbled by the recognition. “It’s such an honor to be recognized today by the Exchange Club,” Cole said. “We come to work to serve Jackson and never to be recognized. So I’m happy today.” In a year, Cole will be eligible to apply for a captain’s position with the department.
