DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Jackson’s Regional Interfaith Association, or RIFA, has received a $25,000 grant for its Snack Backpack program. The Walmart Foundation presented the award earlier this afternoon as part of its State Giving Program, working to fill the gap of elementary school kids left hungry. Last year, the Tennessee State Giving Program awarded more than $1 million to local organizations. “We started 10 years ago with 25 kids,” said Lisa Tillman, executive director of RIFA. “This year, we’re serving almost 700 children, so the need just continues to grow. Every year, too, obviously the cost of the program continues to grow as well.” This is the tenth year of the Snack Backpack program.
