Whiteville police force nearly cut in half
WHITEVILLE, Tenn.– Residents in Whiteville are upset after Mayor James Bellar made the decision to cut the police force nearly in half. The decision came down on Monday night at a city hall meeting when the mayor eliminated the positions of two full-time officers as well as two part-time officer positions. According to an Alderman, that did not want to be named, said that the Mayor’s decision was due to the fact that the department was not generating enough revenue. According to the minutes from the October meeting, the mayor told the department and other officials that the revenue for the department has dropped $100,000 in three years. Officials said that Mayor Bellar made the decision along with the police commissioner to get rid of the positions.
