Deandre Thomas girlfriend speaks out a year after his death

JACKSON, Tenn.- A family is still seeking answers after one of their loved ones was gunned down a year ago on Nov. 5, 2013. Deandre Thomas was gunned down when leaving for work early in the morning. His girlfriend of 7 years, Laketa James, told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that the horrific night still haunts her. “I think about it everyday, it’s a tough thing. I think about it when I’m cooking and I think about it when I’m looking at my children,” said James. Deandre was one of two people killed that day in a string of five separate shootings that occurred in the east Jackson area over the course of 24 hours. “I just remember kissing him goodbye, and next thing I hear are the gunshots. I just lost it, It feels just like it happened yesterday,” said James. Interim Police Chief Julian Wiser told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that he was not available to comment on the investigation. No arrests have been made in the case and no suspects named. Deandre left behind a 7-year-old boy, a 1-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old daughter.
