JACKSON, Tenn — Sunday kicked off the first day of Operation Christmas Child’s national collection week. Dozens of churches across West Tennessee collected their first round of gift-filled shoe boxes for children across the world. Families and organizations shop for clothes, necessities and toys and send them to a child in need. One volunteer tells us why she has made it a holiday tradition. “It’s a way to spread the gospel,” said Barbara Lutz, a member at First Baptist Church of Jackson. “They can touch somebody on the other side of the world.” This week, churches across West Tennessee will be collecting gift boxes.
