Retired Lt. Elston formally charged; judge recuses himself

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Former Madison County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Jerry Elston was officially charged Monday with the 52 counts handed down by a grand jury exactly one week ago. Also Monday, presiding judge Don Allen recused himself from the case. Elston’s attorney, Mark Donahoe, appeared on Elston’s behalf, entering a not guilty plea to every count of prescription fraud and doctor shopping. Elston currently is free on bond.
