NORTH JACKSON — Students at Thelma Barker Elementary School got a chance Monday to purchase gifts for loved ones. First through 5th graders had a selection of coffee mugs to picture frames. The parent-teacher committee supplied students with the gifts, and teachers say the weeklong event is to help students create a culture that they can share. “We have focused a lot this year on creating a culture of care and extending that care from the faculty down to the students and then from the students to one another outside the school,” Principal Ryan Kirkbride said. Students will be able to purchase the presents throughout the week.
