Police kill 16-year-old robbery suspect who shot officer
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Metro Nashville police say a 16-year-old robbery suspect has been killed after he shot and injured an officer.
Police spokesman Don Aaron told Nashville media that officers were responding to a report of a robbery Sunday night and went to a residence where they thought the suspects fled. While searching, they came upon a suspect and tried unsuccessfully to use a stun gun to arrest him.
Police say that’s when the teen pulled out a pistol and shot 42-year-old Officer John Downs in the leg. Four other officers then returned fire, killing the suspect, who police have identified as Xavier McDonald.
Downs was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.
Police say McDonald was listed as a runaway at the time of the shooting.
