Last minute shoppers fight crowds in the holiday spirit
JACKSON, Tenn. — Shoppers in West Tennessee are in the holiday spirit. Shoppers hit store aisles just days before the presents have to be under the tree. “Santa Claus is coming to town!” shopper Glynn Williford said. The final week before Santa comes to town means there’s little time to wait. “I’m just a procrastinator at heart, but everything went well today, just a couple thing left like wrapping paper, bows, things like that,” shopper Christy Young said. Some reports predicted the weekend would be busier than Black Friday, with billions of dollars spent on Christmas cheer. “I’ve had a good time shopping so far. I just don’t want to be here the last day in this crowd,” shopper Dolorese Rogers said. Some shoppers said they’ll be battling the crowds this week hoping to snag the best deals, while others said they just haven’t had time to shop until now. “I”ve been busy at work, teaching at a college, practicing law, kids to take care of,” Bede Anyanwu said. The holiday doesn’t wait, and some say the hustle and bustle is what they enjoy most about the season. A report from the website Shoppertrak predicted more than $10 billion in sales the weekend before Christmas. Black Friday brought in just more than $9 billion.
