Mayor says Jackson police alert after NY officer attack

JACKSON, Tenn. — Mayor Jerry Gist says everyone is on high alert after deadly attacks Saturday on two New York police officers. He describes Jackson police officers as highly trained and capable of protecting themselves and others. “Well, obviously I think they need to be vigilant, which I am sure they are, in protecting our city and protecting themselves,” Gist said. “Right now we are a very volatile country in many of our cities, and Jackson is no exception.” WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News reached out to Interim Police Chief Julian Wiser for comment about any safety measures in effect, but multiple calls were not returned.
