Selmer police investigate afternoon bank robbery

SELMER, Tenn. — Police in Selmer are investigating a Monday afternoon bank robbery that put nearby schools and a hospital on lockdown. According to Selmer Police, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Home Banking Company was robbed by an man wielding a hand gun. Investigators said the robbery was less than one minute and no one was injured. However, the hospital as well as Selmer Middle and Elementary Schools were placed on lockdown for about half an hour. The subject is believed to be a white male, who had a medium height and heavy build. More details about the individual are unavailable at this time. The subject fled the bank on foot after the robbery. Witnesses in the bank stated that the subject walked with difficulty as if he had a possible medical issue with his back or legs.
