Henderson County church added to national historic register

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Historical Commission has announced the addition of a Henderson County church to the National Register of Historic Places. Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church and Cemetery, located about two miles northwest of Wildersville in rural Henderson County, dates back to 1895 and is one of three sites across the state added to the register, according to a release from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. The one-story church has an accompanying cemetery that was established around 1835 when the first Mt. Pisgah church was built, according to the release. The current church was built after a fire in the 1890s, the release states. Services are still held twice a month at the church, and revivals are held twice a year.
