JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson police say they are searching for the alleged gunman after a shooting in north Jackson just before 11 a.m. Friday. The suspect is described as a black man who could be driving an early 2000-model maroon Buick Century. Authorities say an off-duty officer reported the gunshots. “He heard shots fired in the area — notified dispatch on his radio,” Interim Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser said. Wiser says the shooting started on Garland Drive, right behind the Jackson Clinic in north Jackson. “A suspect was taken into custody here in the area of the Jackson Clinic,” Wiser said. “He did have a weapon at the time. The other suspect fled in a maroon Buick Century.” Authorities could not say whether either of the men involved in the shooting lived in the house on Garland Drive where the incident started. Residents who live nearby say it is concerning the shooting was so close. “It was a little scary, but it doesn’t happen much in this area, so it was a little scary, but I’m glad that everybody’s OK and that’s all that happened,” Shontell Brown said after the shooting. Authorities say they are still investigating the shooting. “At the time, we’re still working on a motive,” Wiser said. “We’re not sure right now if it’s a robbery or if it’s drug related or what the situation is.” If you have any information about the car or the shooting, call Crime Stoppers at 731-424-TIPS (8477) or Jackson police.
