Police investigate west Jackson shooting; victim still in hospital

WEST JACKSON — Police are investigating a Tuesday night shooting in West Jackson that has left one woman recovering in the hospital. Officers responded to the shooting around 9:30 p.m. at an apartment in the 800 block of Old Hickory Boulevard and found a 43-year-old Jackson woman had suffered a single gunshot wound, according to a release from the Jackson Police Department. The woman was transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where she remains in stable condition. Police say two men entered the duplex apartment through a back window. The woman was shot when she went to check on the noise and saw the intruders, the release states. Both suspects are described as black males with slim builds and 16 to 20 years old. The woman did not live at the apartment and was there while the tenant was out of town, according to the release. Investigators think the intruders broke into the apartment not expecting anyone to be at the residence.
