DYERSBURG, Tenn. – Reed boxing gym is a home away from home for many Dyersburg kids. “They come in here and it’s a totally different world when they step in this gym,” said gym owner Terance Reed. Since November 2012, kids as young as eight have climbed into the local ring located off of East Court Street. Amber Reed, who trains local kids with her husband Terance, says at first, getting the non-profit off the ground was tough. “We have to find them. Show them fun, good times and treat them like our kids instead of a player on a team,” explained Reed. Her eight-year old daughter says boxing has taught her a lot. “It taught me I’m like the greatest boxer in the world,” said Teagan Reed with a bright smile. Nicknamed ‘Tiny Turbo’, Teagan told her parents cheerleading or gymnastics wasn’t for her. Team Reed recently knocked out their Regional competition in Arkansas. Their next opponent is Nationals in Missouri. “To have four of my fighters going to Nationals is a blessing,” said Reed. Reed’s 13-year-old son Braden, known as ‘Sweet Feet’, is one of those heading to Missouri. “I worked so hard for five years and i just won regionals and it took me four years to win that,” said Braden. Teem Reed and their four boxers travel to Independence, MO on February 4. For more information about the gym, email AandTReed@bellsouth.net
