JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Fire Department honored a citizen on Friday who assisted them in helping put out a fire. The fire happened in January at St. Mary’s Manor. According to firefighters, she ran into the fire in the kitchen and grabbed an extinguisher to help. Firefighters says in times like this it’s important to recognize citizens who risk their lives to try and save others.. “I think it is important to recognize citizens, especially when they go above and beyond and act and really help us in our job,” said Capt. Jonathan Harrison of the Jackson Fire Department. This week is national burn awareness week. The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office is joining the American Burn Association to encourage scald and burn prevention.
