CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn. — Residents of Terry Road reacted to news of an officer involved shooting that left one suspect dead Friday night. Sheriff Department officials said they were originally responding to a domestic violence call around 8 p.m. According to a statement by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, 27-year-old Matthew Belk had already left his home. When officers found a vehicle matching the complainants description. Belk exited the vehicle with a firearm, and one deputy fired. Belk was killed. “As soon as I found out it kind of brought tears to my eyes it makes a lot to make me cry,” said Jordan Black, close friend to Belk. He said Belk’s reaction to deputies was out of character for him. “He was a real good guy, a real kind-hearted guy, a good father, and everything else,” Black said. He said he does understand the deputies action in order to maintain safety. “They had to handle it that way to protect themselves, and to protect others, but I just wish it would’ve ended differently,” Black said. Sheriff department officials said the investigation is presently being handled by the T.B.I. Officials said findings will be given to the District Attorney General Matthew Stowe.
