ADAMSVILLE, Tenn. — Dwana Pusser was on the phone with her daughter Tuesday afternoon when her daughter said she was walking outside in the nasty winter weather. “I’m on the phone with her in the grocery store and I hear the phone drop, and I hear her scream at the top of her lungs,” Atoyia Barnes said. At the time, Barnes said she did not know her mother had just fallen on ice and broken her hip. The incident left her stranded out in the cold and helpless wearing just a T-shirt and a pair of thin pants. “She had laid out on the freezing ice for about 30 minutes, so her body was already going into hypothermia,” Barnes said. Barnes said a neighbor who is a first responder saw her lying there on the ice and was able to pull her inside. Barnes said she arrived minutes later to find out her mother somehow survived lying on ice helplessly in deathly cold temperatures. Pusser’s grandson said his grandmother’s incredible strength is a result of her past. “Her mom getting killed in the ambush and her dad getting killed in the car wreck, it made her stronger, and I believe that made her stronger too,” Hayes Barnes said. Atoyia Barnes said her mother underwent full hip surgery Wednesday and will need several months to recover. Barnes said her mother’s miracle is just another grace from God.
