EAST JACKSON — Jackson Central-Merry was announced Friday as a nationwide winner of State Farm’s “Help Your High School Get to a Better State” contest. To be considered, listeners to the Steve Harvey Morning Show had to nominate a school and explain in 200 words or less how they would utilize $10,000 to assist their high school. With the winnings, State Farm agent Ron Tharpe says the school will now be able to do the things that they want to do. “We give a check to supply them with some of the things that they don’t get to do or the extra funds that they need to do some of the things that they would like to do,” Tharpe said. The grant will be used to teach students how to cultivate and grow healthy food choices in a garden that will be located on their campus.
