Union fans show unwavering support during tournament

JACKSON, Tenn. — Even though the win from Nova Southeastern against the Union University women’s basketball team was not what fans wanted their support never wavered. Monday night and all through the tournament Lady Bulldog fans and supporters turned out in droves for a season like none other. In the championship game the crowd at “The Fred” was deafening. Fans showing unwavering support for these first year Cinderellas of D II. “This is probably the first kind of excitement like this on our campus,” Union’s Athletic Director Tommy Sadler said. Sadler said the gym was near capacity for each game and at the max Monday night. “We’ve had a lot of support from people in the city and that’s just added to the excitement that our students have brought to the game,” Sadler said. Students said the excitement from an event like this has united the campus. “I think this is one of the most unified times for Union and women’s basketball really does that for us,” senior Chelsea Cobb said. From tailgating pregame, to game-time chants students said this tournament has brought out new spirit. “This weekend’s definitely been super exciting. Sports here don’t really get too much recognition and so seeing everybody just going absolutely nuts is so awesome,” sophomore Sydney Jensen said. Sandy McLemore has attended Lady Bulldogs games for 20 years and said it is neat to see new faces in the crowd. “You would think they’d been coming all year because they’re so excited for the team so it’s really neat to watch that,” McLemore said. Nova Southeastern will go on to play California University of Pennsylvania next Tuesday March 24 in the quarterfinals in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
