EAST JACKSON — The Tennessee State Conference of the NAACP hosted a forum Thursday night at Lane College for a discussion about education. The main topic of the forum was the benefits and obstacles of Common Core State Standards. Parents and advocates were invited to the free event at the Chambers-McClure Academic Center to learn how to ensure their children have a quality education. “We’re going to be talking about why they’re important and why it’s so important that all students leave high school either career or college ready, and these standards will ensure that happens,” said Gloria J. Sweet-Love, director of the Tennessee NAACP. Organizers said they plan to have at least four more meetings across the state, with the next set for April 2 in Nashville.
