JACKSON, Tenn. – Jackson Christian looked to a familiar face to assume their boys basketball head coaching position. The school named assistant JD Byrd as the new varsity head coach on Friday. ““Coach Byrd possesses the traits we look for in head coaches of our athletic programs. He loves his players with the love of Christ,” said athletic director Scott Gatlin in the school’s news release. “He models hard work and is able to motivate his teams to work just as hard as he does. He has a passion to coach basketball, and he is a student of the game.” Byrd, a Freed-Hardeman University graduate, begins his new duties in the 2015-16 school year. In his addition to serving as the boys varsity assistant last year, Byrd was also the middle school girl’s head coach and golf coach.
