HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Jurors reached a verdict Wednesday in a murder case from more than three years ago. After two and a half hours of deliberation, a Henderson County jury found Scott Carpenter not guilty in the 2012 shooting death of his ex-wife’s boyfriend, Darren Putman. Carpenter’s attorney said Thursday he is happy the verdict was in their favor. “I think his testimony had a lot to do with the verdict in the case,” attorney Mark Donahoe said. “And we were very happy that the jury saw it the same way we saw it.” Donahoe says his client acted in self-defense when he got into an argument with Putman outside a home on New Flanagan Road. The jury also found Carpenter not guilty of reckless endangerment and a weapons count.
