NEWBERN, Tenn. — The chief of the Newbern Police Department has hired an attorney and filed an appeal to his unpaid suspension. On April 7, Chief Doug Robertson was suspended amid allegations from officers of a hostile working environment within the department. The suspension was for 14 days. Robertson’s attorney, Michael Weinman out of Jackson, sent a letter of appeal to the Newbern mayor’s office. Weinman requested a hearing before a full board. As of Tuesday, a date had not been set for the hearing.
