Jerry Gist

Incumbent Mayor Jerry Gist began working for the City of Jackson as the executive director of the city’s recreation and parks department. He assumed the role of executive director of the city’s public works department in 1991. Gist was elected Madison County mayor in 2002, and in May 2007, he was elected the city of Jackson mayor. Gist holds a bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University in Alabama, a master‘s degree in public administration from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., and is a graduate of The Harvard School of Government. He is a U.S. Army veteran. Gist and his wife, Liz, have two children and four grandchildren.
