NORTH JACKSON — Here’s a question — are you smarter than a Pope Panther? Friday in north Jackson, fourth and fifth grade students teamed up to take on Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist and Storm Team 7 Chief Meteorologist Tom Meiners. This war of wits is a fun way to help students prepare for the upcoming state achievement tests. The game tested the contestants’ skills in reading, language, math, science and social studies. Teachers say it’s a good way of getting students ready for testing. “The kids get a little nervous, and we want to let them know that they have the skills, they know all the answers and we just want to give them a little bit of confidence and boost them up because they are ready,” teacher Sonya Patrick said. TCAP testing begins in six days. And if you are wondering, neither Tom nor Mayor Gist is smarter than a Pope Panther.
