Man accused of stealing, fleeing across I-40 appears in court

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man went before a judge Monday on accusations of stealing from Walmart, fleeing and then running across Interstate 40 before being apprehended by police. Ezikeal Scott allegedly concealed an automotive light bar valued at $29.95 while inside Walmart in north Jackson, according to an affidavit. Scott ran from a store loss prevention officer before being located by police in Popeyes on Vann Drive, the document states. After being found by police, Scott is accused of running across Vann Drive and then across I-40 before being captured on Carriage House Drive. The light bar was not recovered, and Walmart requests $29.95 in restitution. The loss prevention officer told police Scott was arrested in December on a theft charge from Walmart and was given written notice not to be on any Walmart property. Scott is charged with theft of property less than $500, evading arrest and criminal trespassing. He is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
