Mexican woman extradited to Nashville on murder charge
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Mexican citizen has been extradited to Nashville to face a murder charge in the death of her nephew nearly eight years ago.
According to Metro Nashville Police, Marisol Alvarado was taking care of her 7-week-old nephew on July 16, 2007, when the boy was hospitalized, suffering from a severe head injury, fractured ribs and a broken leg.
Detectives determined that Alvarado had injured the baby by shaking him because he was crying. An arrest warrant was issued on July 24, and the child died on July 30.
Alvarado disappeared and was located earlier this year in Jalisco, Mexico.
She was returned to Nashville on Tuesday and was being held on $500,000 bond.
Court records do not list an attorney for Alvarado.
