BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. – Haywood’s boys basketball team added the finishing touches to their first-ever state championship. The Class AA Gold Ball was in Brownsville, but something else was missing. The Tomcats put their championship rings on for the first time on Monday evening during the school’s awards banquet. “We worked so hard for it,” said senior Jordan Varnado. “All the hard work finally paid off.” Haywood defeated Fulton from Knoxville in March to capture school history. Head coach Kendall Dancy is hoping to teach West Tennessee kids the same fundamentals that helped his team earn a state title. The former Tomcat is hosting a ‘Shooting Stars Basketball Camp’ in July (13-16). The camp is open to boys and girls from grades 4-10 from everywhere.
