EAST JACKSON, Tenn. – Jackson Central Merry’s track and field team has a huge target on their back. The Cougars are heading to Murfreesboro as the team to beat in several state tournament meets. “The team is ready. They’ve seen this pressure before,” track coach Scott Kee said. “That is a good pressure to have because it’s extra weight on your shoulders.” Jalen Marshall will carry a majority of that extra weight. The senior sprinter has four races to compete in on Friday. “We’ve got some big footsteps to follow at JCM in track,” said Marshall. Marshall and his teammates are seeking a third consecutive gold medal in the 4 x100 meter relay and second straight in 4 x 200 meter relay. “The times are so close; I think it’s going to come down to who wants it the most,” Kee added. “Whatever they do that day is going to be the champion.”
