PARIS, Tenn. – Arts & craft, kids’ carnival, petting zoo and live music don’t sound like your typical scenery for a Bassmaster fishing tournament. But that is in fact what West Tennesseans will see at this year’s Bassmaster BASSfest in Paris. “There’s tons of activities. You don’t necessarily have to know anything about fishing,” director of operations Eric Lopez said. “If you want to learn about our sport or just have a good time this weekend, you can come on out.” The best feature about the five day event in Henry County is everything is free. This is the second year of the BASSfest. The inaugural showcase took place in Dayton, TN. “We’ve hosted several events here [Paris] before. It’s a great lake. The pros love coming here,” Lopez added. “It’s been several years since we’ve been in the area. We want to make sure we spread the wealth as we bring the tour across the country.” The real action begins on Wednesday, but Lopez recommends first timers to come on the weekend when the outdoor expo opens. “That’s when all the activities that I mentioned will be going on,” Lopez said. “For die-hard fans, the weigh-in begins on Wednesday. We’ll have blasts off at 6:15 in the morning. We go into weigh-in at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.” More information about the Bassmaster BASSfest can be found at www.paristnchamber.com.
