JACKSON, Tenn. — Clayton Nelson entered a guilty plea on charges of second-degree murder in the case of his father’s death last July. Prosecutors said Nelson stabbed his father in his home on Westwood Avenue, then called authorities and asked them to check on him. Nelson’s lawyers said their client wanted to avoid bringing the case to a trial. “I think he wanted to respect his sisters, his uncle and try to see if he could work something out versus going to trial,” said Greg Gookin, assistant public defender for Madison County. Before serving his 35 years on Madison County charges, Nelson first will be required to complete an eight-year sentence in Sumner County on felony theft charges.
