JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson-Madison County School Board has decided to delay the start of the school day for some students. Board members made the decision Monday during their July meeting. Instead of the first bell of the day being at 8:15 a.m., the board voted to move it to 8:30 a.m. for students at Denmark, Beech Bluff, East, Lincoln, Isaac Lane and Arlington elementary schools. The schools’ dismissal time will be moved back to 3:30 p.m. Superintendent Dr. Verna Ruffin said she and the board believe the new time will benefit everyone. “In the afternoons, it will allow them not to have to wait 30 to 40 minutes for a second load to pick them up and take them home,” she said. “It will be more convenient, we believe, for our students as well as their families.” The board has not announced any other time changes for any other schools.
