DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man went before a judge Monday on accusations of assaulting a man at a Jackson club and then leading police in a car chase. Joe Robert Alonzo is accused of throwing a bottle at a man’s face around 1 a.m. Sunday at a club on Heritage Square, breaking the bottle and causing severe cuts on the man’s face, according to an affidavit. About an hour later, police say Alonzo refused to stop the car he was driving and led them on a pursuit on Heritage Square, Old Hickory Boulevard and the Highway 45 Bypass. Alonzo then struck a police car at the intersection of the 45 Bypass and Channing Way, ending the pursuit, according to court papers. Alonzo is charged with aggravated assault, felony evading arrest by motor vehicle and reckless endangerment. He is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
